Applicants for membership of the BVT are assessed on the basis of their education, training and experience, and will be engineers, business managers or designers with a practical orientation.
Members can use the letters BVT after their name. Those with a minimum of two years' acceptable experience can apply for a bilingual certificate demonstrating their entitlement to call themselves
- State-certified Engineer BVT,
- State-certified Business Manager BVT or
- State-certified Designer BVT.
These titles are the respective translations, authorised by the German Federal Government, of
- Staatlich geprüfter Techniker,
- Staatlich geprüfter Betriebswirt and
- Staatlich geprüfter Gestalter.
